Our work
Georgia’s European Orbit was founded as a non-entrepreneurial (non-commercial) legal entity on May 10, 2023. Within the six months of establishment, the organization attained an important place within Georgia’s civil society space and established itself as a key voice in support of Georgia’s EU integration and obtaining candidate status. Our first project – Georgia’s European Voice united some of the most influential Georgians from arts and science around the campaign to support Georgia’s EU candidacy. We also collected messages of Georgian citizens to the EU institutions from across the country and a book of messages was later delivered to Brussels as a testament of Georgia’s European voices.
In 2024, Georgia’s European Orbit was a member of the My Vote election observation coalition, which brought together around 30 civil society organizations, first such effort of civil society coordination to observe elections. Georgia’s European Orbit contributed to the coalition through ensuring a robust methodology framework for observation, training of observers, data collection and the documentation of electoral violations on election day.
Georgia’s European Orbit currently focuses on documenting human rights abuses, crackdown and repressions of the pro-democracy movement in Georgia. We have issued several reports assessing repressive tactics used by authorities against pro-democracy protesters; documented individual instances of violence; of violence against journalists; studied criminal cases against prisoners of conscience; and created relevant databases available on this website.
